REVIEW
Jordan Loyal Short returns to the world of the Dragon Rech in this third book of the series.
As the Dragon Reich rise in Reinveldt, Jabar Wormwood the potion addled alchemist of the previous books searches for a cure to save Izola and Viktor.
As he takes a ride in a carriage with two strangers, Wormwood is triggered by an unknown stimulus and he enters into a state of hallucinogenic unconsciousness. Whilst in this fugue state he receives a cryptic message from an unknown woman who he thinks may be someone from his past warning him to keep a hold of his secrets.
This leads him to investigate the phenomenon, but when he does, he finds that there are some secrets that he will die to keep. Even from himself.
Dragon Bone Elixir is a madcap adventure set in a world where fascism is on the rise. Short takes aspects of history and melds them into an enjoyable fantasy that whilst being zany and chaotic, recognises that the world that the characters live in is rapidly declining into a world war and deals with some serious issues.
The plot itself is fast paced and entertaining and is littered with inanity and a smattering of puerility that if you like that kind of thing (and I do!) will keep you chuckling throughout.
The story expands the characters, providing background to one of the minor characters of the first two books and makes him slightly endearing in the way that he behaves whilst moving the story on the series on to its next instalment.
Dragon Bone Elixir is an enjoyable addition to Shorts ever expanding world.
