BOOK POST | MONTHLY COMICS UPDATE

Hello Folks! Here we are again with another comics round up for the month.

This month has been a little lean on the number of comics. However, there is a reason for that.

I have been reading Invincible.

After having my eldest son badgering me for ages, I finally got around to watching the fantastic animated series on Amazon Prime.

I thoroughly enjoyed the show and when it ends with a climactic series I knew I needed to see what happens, so I started the first compedium. Now this is an absolute tome with over a thousand pages. If you haven’t read it, but you have seen the series, this one covers about the first two seasons.

If you haven’t read;t read Invincible and you are interested in knowing what the series about, it’s about Mark Grayson, the son of Omni Man, a superman type character who has moved here from his planet of Viltrum to become the Earth’s protector.

In the midst of this there are a number of other superheroes who are recognisable, but have Robert Kirkman’s twist on them.

Written by Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead) and art by Corey Walker (for the first eight or nine issues of the comic) and then Ryan Ottley who took over.

I really am enjoying this series and how it both embraces regular superhero tropes, but also turns them on their head.

STRAY DOGS / STRAY DOGS: DOG DAYS

Tony Fleecs (Writer), Trish Forstner (Illustrator), Brad Simpson (Colorist), Tone Rodriguez (Illustrator)

I between starting the first and second compendium of Invincible, I managed to fit these two in. They were short reads in all honesty and were easily read in one sitting.

Published by Image in 2021, these comics took the comics world by storm.

The story starts with a dog (seemingly a stray) being introduced to a group of other dogs. The premise seems innocuous at the start. We have a timid little chihuahua who appears nervous. However, as the story starts to unfold, the story becomes more sinister.

Billed as All Dogs Go to Heaven meets Silence of the Lambs (I do thing that that is the wrong analogy to be honest and a tad bit misleading).

The story is ultimately good and there are some shocking moments in it.

The second book is ultimately a bit of a let down. It’s basically a series of vignettes about how the different dogs got into the house where they were in the first book.

The stories are quite short, and in some cases give some background to the first book. But, for me, I don’t think the first book needed it.

The best bit of the book was the end of the book which gives some closure to the story as a whole.

I have another series of stories by the same team to read called Feral which is billed as a zombie apocalypse - with cats! And I am looking forward to getting to that one.

Anyway, that’s the end of this update.

I hope to see you next month.

And now to continue with Invincible Compendium 2
